Monica Stonier (Prefers Democratic Party)

Other Professional Experience: Instructional Literacy Coach for Evergreen Public Schools, English and History teacher at Pacific Middle School. Believing strongly in the importance of quality instruction, Monica has spent her 12 year career in education focused on systems and solutions ranging from a district level, to a classroom, to individual student level.

Education: BA degree in Psychology and WA State Teaching Certificate, Western Washington University. Master of Education, Washington State University Vancouver.

Community Service: Monica stays politically involved in her community, coaches various youth sports teams, and was nominated for the General George C. Marshall Public Leadership Award in 2010.

Statement: As a mom, public school educator, and a taxpayer, I care more about creating jobs, improving our schools, and insuring government is transparent and accountable than partisan bickering and political theater.

In Olympia, I will push for a commonsense balanced, budget that fully funds K-12 education and preserves the safety net for seniors and most vulnerable- without raising taxes. We must make wise investments in job training, economic growth, and support our biggest job creators –small businesses. I will always be a strong champion for low taxes, independent thinking, and listening to you. I ask for your vote.

Julie Olson (Prefers Republican Party)

Elected Experience: In 2005 Julie Olson was elected to her School Board. She has served as Board President the last four years.

Other Professional Experience: Julie has been in scientific sales and management for over 25 years.

Education: Julie attended the University of Idaho on a volleyball scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology.

Community Service: Julie is a native Washingtonian. She and her siblings were raised with a strong ethos for public service. Two brothers are firefighters and her sister is a Federal Prosecutor. Julie has a desire to give back to her community, which is why she is driven to serve as our Representative.

Statement: “As a mother, businesswoman, and school board member I am concerned with the direction of government in Washington. Our state budget must be sustainable and balanced without raising taxes. We have to scale back the burdensome regulations on our businesses so that they can begin hiring again.”

As School Board President, Julie Olson found ways to do more with less without a single teacher layoff. She will go to Olympia as an experienced leader to protect our priorities and stop the current habit of overspending, overpromising and underdelivering. Julie Olson will bring independent, fiscally responsible and innovative thinking to Olympia.
