As your next U.S. Senator, I will call for the quick withdrawal of U.S. Troops from Iraq. It is time to bring our troops home and cooperate with the international community to rebuild Iraq and stabilize the region.
I came to this country as a refugee of the Vietnam War. I have seen the devastating effect war has on a country. As a legal aid attorney serving Washington families, I have seen how the Iraq war has affected us at home, resulting in cuts to vital social programs and the erosion of our civil liberties.
As a working mother, I know we must protect our working families from trade policies like NAFTA and CAFTA that are sending middle-class jobs overseas. I know that our communities need better public education, affordable housing, a clean environment, and universal health-care.
I am an immigrant to this country. My family was brought to the United States from a refugee camp with little more than the shirts on our backs. We found success and were able to give back to the community that offered us a home.
Punishing hard-working people is not the answer to our immigration problems. Immigrant labor is the backbone of our economy. Those who are already here and contributing to our communities deserve a clear path to legal citizenship.
For the last fourteen years I have advocated for Washington’s low-income and working families. As a nationally-recognized expert in housing advocacy, the rights of immigrants, and the rights of the disabled, I explained to lawmakers how the laws they made affected Washington families. As your U.S. Senator, I will write the good laws I know we need and continue to provide a strong voice for Washington families.
